Current Campaigns

Palmer’s most active projects today are tied to two conservation initiatives which span the northern half of its service territory: the Protect the Peak Conservation Initiative, which launched in 2008, and the Peak to Prairie Conservation Initiative, which launched in 2003.  The Protect the Peak Initiative focuses on protecting signature lands that circumnavigate America’s Mountain: Pikes Peak.  The initiative spans four counties, encompasses the headwaters of two major watersheds, and includes the campaign to save two landmark public open space properties: White Acres and Manitou Section 16.  The Peak to Prairie Campaign focuses on protecting prairie lands of the Lower Arkansas Valley and riparian corridors that feed the Arkansas River in El Paso, Pueblo, Fremont and Crowley counties.  These working lands represent some of the older family ranch lands in the state and protect some of Colorado’s most threatened habitat.
